What a Great Summer For Fishing!
As per the turmoil in "The Republic" with Canadian Alliance, and the down time in politicking, it has proven to be a great summer for fishing in three different regions.

1). Alberta (Region ES1 - Alberta Fisheries)
2). B.C. (stands for "Bring Cash" for a fishing license)
3). National Parks (Fishing in Yoho, Banff and Glacier National Park)

Alberta

Alberta has a lack of lakes, however, the rivers serve up a host of great fish species! These are cold rivers and come from Glaciel run off. This is great for Trout fishing.

The Elbow River

The Trout record this year for the Boogaloo is a three pounder from the Elbow river. This is a great getaway after work. The Elbow runs into Calgary, but it is not great fishing in the city. Instead, past Elbow falls were the trout are larger and more plentiful.

The Bow River

This long Glaciel river is riddled with fishing restrictions - call and read before attemting to catch one!

MacLean Creek (Bragg creek Connector)

This creek is great to jet out to on a Friday afternoon for a few hours with a pack of buts, some coolies and a few donuts. Just watch your donuts - I had an encounter with a medium sized black bear two Friday's ago. We scared the crap out of each other! I ended up with a few brrok trout - tasty appetizers.

Canmore Area

Both upper and lower Canmore offer a rich experience of wildlife, scenery and fresh air. Bring the 4 x 4 for the best experience. This area leeks into Kananaskis area (K-Country). Spray lakes are great camping and fishing combo. Just watch the winds - our favourite Trout do not bite with the winds up. Bring a pint and look at the snow capped mountains instead. The rangers flock here - so no funny stuff!

The Bow river runs through Canmore and offers a great fly fishing experience. (More to come after this afternoons excursion).

Note: Bull Trout are at an all time species low - there is a province wide ban. Catch and release this guy.

British Columbia

As mentioned - this is "Bring Cash" country. A fishing license for 8 days will cost more than . The cost for a license for a year in Alberta is . You do the math. Before any fishing items are pointed out, a few more things on the province. There are Cold Beer Stores and Province run beer stores. Don't buy from a cold beer store - two six packs cost me .00. However, the provincial beer store is only a few bucks cheaper. If a trip is planned - always fly into "The Republic" where beer is more economical. Keep in mind on long weekends - the Socialist police (much like Quebec's Force) do road checks for non-BC illegal beer imports. I have all the tricks down for this. Contact me. Further, if you wish to stop for a Ceasar at your favourite BC watering hole, keep in mind the G.S.T., P.S.T. and the B.C. Liquor tax. The math for this 2 x .50 = .00 Tax = $1.75. I paid the gov. of BC this much for a refreshment. hopefully the new premier (Liberal ) will be better than Pindunderjeep! Tha's enough political ranting - I just wanted to illustrate the high cost of angling in this socialist province!

The sheer beauty of this province alone is an attraction for anglers! My first trip was to the interior this year - specifically Kelowna. The Okinagan has so many lakes that the maps don't show all the hidden gems. My favourite - bar none - Buck Lake. This is actually a provincial campground with two camp spots! Thats right - only two plots to set up a tent each. Therefore - this lake is well guarded from the day anglers. The road leading up to it is designated as a logging route and therefore not too many posers get in. Rainbow galore in this spot. Excursions are available through my travel company. Please reserve a year in advance for this spot. Proper equipment and planning are required (Len the ultimate guide).

Another lake, though more frequented, is houdou lake. this is a resevoir for the city of Kelowna. So stocked that we had three guys in a small boat and we all had fair sized trout on our lines. The down side - the horse flies are double the size than that of Ontario.

One warning about this Province. The license is expensive, but the Warden's carry glocks! Buy the license! No forgeries my friends - deadly business.

National Parks

You must be very aware of your park, the province the area falls into and the severe fishing rstrictions. Also - the bears are plentiful and hungry!

My first attemt at the dazzling parks was an exhilirating experience. My guides - Auny and Maia hale from Lake Louise. They brought me up a six Kilometer trek. I had to carry one of the guides down the mountain after our day - just from the journeys advanced route. Hard to light a butt when a four year old is on your back. Bacon is not allowed in any National Park. Bate ban. Also - lead waits are not allowed. Hard fishing - but rewarding. I have a plethora of hidden gems throughout the Rockies to recommend - call for more info!

In Closing....

That's my information for the Summer of 2001! thus far been great! Remember - you nust get a passport to arrive in "The Republic of Alberta". WestJet flies here direct from Ottawa and Hamilton - cheap!!! And a final note - Don't clean your fish in the river that you fish in!
